YOM KIPPUR AFTERNOON HAPPENINGS

DANCING OURSELVES HOME FOR THE HARVEST

ANCIENT YOM KIPPUR RITUAL

There were no days as festive as… Yom Kippur, when young men and women (in the afternoon) would be clad in white so that none would be embarrassed, and they would dance and sing, calling to one another: Gaze not upon the outside appearances but upon what is at our core.

Rabbi Shimon ben Gamliel (2nd century)

In the spirit of this ancient ritual, each year Ad-Olam has been offering a variety of happenings on Yom Kippur afternoon.  Some years we’ve included dance or other body or movement-oriented sessions.  This year we’re blessed with abundance, and are able to offer two options for each of the two time frames:

1:45-2:45pm

Yom Kippur Dreaming / PATH OF HEART with Gary Reiss and Annie Goldberg

Following your deepest callings in the coming year.  We will be helping people use new methods in Process Work to get advice for the coming year, be closest to their deepest self and follow their path of heart.

Gary Reiss LCSW, PhD, is a certified trainer in Process Oriented Psychotherapy with a private practice in Eugene.  He also teaches this work worldwide.  Gary has done extensive Shamanic work.

Annie Greenberg is a therapist who utilizes many modalities, including Process Oriented Psychology.  She is currently interested in working with women on issues relating to fertility, creativity, our bodies and inner-criticism.  Her personal passions include gardening and cooking.

                 FORGIVENESS MEDITATION with Cindy McPherson

Do you want more joy in your life?  On Yom Kippur we create space inside to be our true joyful nature, by making amends and forgiving.  Forgiveness clears weight and cobwebs from our heart.  Come to this experimental session to deepen your forgiveness process.  Learn a powerful tool of Toltec Shamanism to release energy you took on and call your energy back from the past.  Step into the New Year lighter and energized.

Cindy McPherson dances in both Jewish and Toltec traditions. She is a coach and teacher with the Toltec Center of Creative Intent, in the lineage of don Miguel Ruiz (author of "The Four Agreements"). She offers tools to help people release limiting beliefs and manifest their true potential.

 2:55-3:55pm

SINGING ALIVE & TESHUVA MOVEMENT with Rob Tobias

Welcome the New Year with singing and movement.  We will sing and move together with multi-part songs with inspirational lyrics that are easy to sing and move along to.  We are the seed to singing the world alive.

Rob Tobias is an Ad-Olam music coordinator, singer, songwriter, playback theatre performer, audio/video producer and workshop leader.  www.robtobias.com for more music and info

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION with Barry Noble PhD

The practice of mindfulness is the art of being more fully present and underlies the High Holy Days teachings on teshuvah (return/repentance), tefillah (prayer), and tzedakah (charity/justice).  Please join us for the simple but liberating practice of mindfulness, and for conversation on the important role of mindfulness in Judaism.

Barry Nobel, PhD began practicing meditation in 1974.  He has taught Religious Studies in colleges in Oregon, Washington and California, and he has been teaching mindfulness for the past seven years around the Northwest.
